HISTORICAL BACKGROUND
The Bank of Tanzania Academy (BOT-AC), formerly known as the Bank of Tanzania Training Institute, is situated in Mwanza at Capri Point along Railway Road. Established in 1991 as the training wing of the Bank of Tanzania, the Academy serves as a cornerstone for capacity building in the banking and financial sector. It is a fully registered and accredited training institution by the National Council for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (NACTVET).
The Academy offers a range of academic programmes, including short-term courses, professional certification, and long-term qualifications. The short-term and professional certification programmes are designed to address the capacity-building needs of staff from the Bank of Tanzania, other banks, and financial institutions. These programmes focus on supporting the overall objectives of the Bank of Tanzania. In addition to standard offerings, the Academy provides tailor-made courses customized to meet the specific training requirements of clients.
For long-term academic development, the Academy offers two programmes: the Ordinary Diploma in Banking Practice and Supervision and the Postgraduate Diploma in Banking Management. Both programmes are recognized nationally and internationally, catering to staff at various levels from entry to senior management in banks and financial institutions.
The Ordinary Diploma is a two-year, full-time programme conducted at the Mwanza campus. It is designed to nurture students at the early stages of their careers, preparing them for roles in the banking and financial sector.
The Postgraduate Diploma in Banking Management is a nine-month evening programme held at the BOT Sub-Head Office in Dar es Salaam. The curriculum includes six months of coursework followed by three months dedicated to strategic research report writing. This programme aims to develop professionals for strategic management positions in banks and other financial institutions.
In addition to its training programmes, the Academy also conducts research and provides consultancy services within the financial sector.
