BOT COMPLIANCE COURSE: BOT FORM 16 SERIES AND SCHEDULES

A. INTRODUCTION
The Bank of Tanzania Act, 2006 and the Banking and Financial Institutions Act, 2006 mandate
the Bank of Tanzania (BOT) to license, regulate and supervise banking institutions in
Tanzania. As a regulator, BOT is entrusted with the responsibility of ensuring stable, sound,
and safe banking sector and financial system at large. In discharging this responsibility, it is
the interest of BOT to ensure that banking institutions prepare and fill within the required time
frames and submit reports that reflect their actual financial condition and performance.

It is along this background that the Bank of Tanzania Academy has organized a five (5) day
course, which is intended to impart necessary skills to staff of banking institutions on how to
fill and submit BOT returns. The training will cover new regulatory returns that were introduced
with the intention of collecting necessary information for financial and monetary decisions.
B. OBJECTIVE OF THE COURSE
At the end of this course participants will be able to accurately fill periodic regulatory returns
as prescribed by the Bank. This includes returns that are submitted to BOT on daily, weekly,
bi-weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual basis.

C. CONTENTS OF THE COURSE
The course will cover presentations on returns relating to various regulatory and compliance
extents of banking institutions as follows:
i. Overview of Tanzania Banking and Relevant Regulatory Instruments used in
Compilation of Regulatory Returns.
ii. Overview of Circular No. 7 Instruction for Filling BOT Returns.

iii. BOT Returns Form 16-1 and BOT Form 16-2: Balance Sheet and Income Statement.

iv. BOT Returns Relating to Foreign Exchange: Daily NOP, and Foreign Currency Sales and
Purchases, and Foreign Currency Placements (BOT Form 16 – 4).

v. BOT Form 16- 1 Schedule 8 (i), Schedule 8 (ii), Schedule 8 (iv), Schedule 9 (i),
Schedule 9 (ii), Schedule 9 (iii), and Schedule 11).

vi. BOT Returns relating to Concentration of Credit and Management of Risk Assets:
(BOT Form 16- 1 Schedule 2 (i), Schedule 2 (ii), Schedule 2 (iii), Schedule 2 (iv),
Schedule 3, Schedule 4 and Schedule 5, Schedule 14 (i) and Schedule 14 (ii)BOT
Form 16- 1 Schedule 6 (i), Schedule 6 (ii), Schedule 6 (iii), Schedule 7).

vii. BOT Returns Related to Capital Adequacy – Form 16 – 1: Schedule 10, Schedule 15(1) – 15 (8)).

viii. BOT Returns Relating to Liquidity Management (BOT Form 16-3, BOT Form 16-6, and
BOT Form 16 -1 Schedule 1).

ix. BOT Returns Related to Capital Adequacy – Form 16 – 1: Schedule 10, Schedule 15(1) – 15 (8).

x. Schedules Relating to Agent Banking: (BOT Form 16- 1 Schedule 8 (iii), Schedule 12
(i), Schedule 12 (ii), Schedule 12 (iii), Schedule 12 (iv), and Schedule 12 (v).

xi. Schedules Relating to Financial Interconnectedness. (BOT Form 16- 1 Schedule 16
(i), Schedule 16 (ii), Schedule 16 (iii), Schedule 16 (iv), Schedule 16 (v), Schedule 16(vi)).

xii. External debt related schedules: BOT Form 16- 1 Schedule 13 (i), Schedule 13 (ii),
Schedule 13 (iii), Schedule 13 (iv)).xiii. National Payment Systems (NPS) Related Schedules.

D. TARGET GROUP
This course is designed for officers of banking institutions who are involved in filling and
reviewing of BOT regulatory returns from departments such as finance, internal audit, credit,
compliance, risk, and treasury management.

E. SCHEDULED DATES AND VENUE
The programme will be conducted in two batches as follows:
• Batch I from 27th to 31st May 2024 at the Bank of Tanzania Arusha branch
• Batch II from 2nd to 6th Sept 2024 at the Bank of Tanzania Arusha branch

F. COURSE FACILITATORS
This course will be facilitated by the Bank of Tanzania.

G. FEES
Fee for each participant is TZS 1.0 million or USD 1000 for non-residents covering tuition,
course materials, lunch, and mid-session refreshments. Participants will be responsible for
