TRAINING ON CREDIT REFERENCE BUREAU OPERATIONS FOR BANKING
INSTITUTIONS AND OTHER STAKEHOLDERS FROM 20th TO 24th MAY 2024
AT THE BANK OF TANZANIA HEAD OFFICE DODOMA

A. INTRODUCTION
The Bank of Tanzania Act, 2006 and the Banking and Financial Institutions Act, 2006
mandate the Bank of Tanzania (BOT) to license, regulate and supervise banks and
financial institutions in Tanzania. As a regulator, BOT is mandated with the responsibility of
ensuring stable, sound and safe banking sector and financial system at large. In carrying
out this responsibility, it is the interest of BOT to ensure that, there is efficient and effective
credit reference system in the country.
An effective credit reference system is a critical element of a country’s financial
infrastructure and essential to facilitating access to credit. It effectively supports sound and
fair extension of credit in the economy as the foundation for robust and competitive credit
market. Lending institutions are required to maintain and share accurate, complete and
timely credit information of their borrowers to the credit reference system.
In view of the above, the Bank of Tanzania Academy has organized a five (5) working days
training on Credit Reference System Operations to be conducted at the Bank of Tanzania
Head Office Dodoma from 20th to 24th May 2024.

B. OBJECTIVE OF THE COURSE
The objective of this course is to impart skills to participants on the operations of credit
reference system, particularly maintenance and timely submission of complete and
accurate credit information of their borrowers in accordance with the data format prescribed
by the Bank. In addition, participants will be able to use services of Credit Reference
Bureaus (CRBs) in an effective manner.

The course will cover presentation on matters relating to:
• Overview of Credit Reporting;
o Principles and Good Practices of Credit Reporting
o Design of Credit Reference Systems
o High Level Overview of Tanzania’s Credit Reference System
• Legal Framework for Credit Reference Operations;
o Bank of Tanzania Act, 2006 and
o Banking and Financial Institutions Act, 2006;
• Regulatory Framework for credit reference operations
o Bank of Tanzania (Credit Reference Databank) Regulations, 2012;
o Bank of Tanzania (Credit Reference Bureau) Regulations, 2012;
• Architecture of the Credit Reference Databank System
o Data Structure
o Data Extraction and Uploading to the Databank
• Presentation from Dun & Bradstreet Credit Bureau Tanzania Limited;
• Presentation from Credit info Tanzania Limited;
• Supervisory Aspects of Credit Reporting;
o Banks and Financial Institutions
o Credit Reference Bureaus

D. TARGET GROUP
This course is designed specifically for officers of the lending institutions, credit reference
bureaus and other stakeholders.

E. SCHEDULED DATES AND DURATION
Five (5) working days: From 20th to 24th May 2024. First Day Registration starts at 08.30A.M.

F. SPECIAL REQUIREMENT
This is a hands-on training whereby each participant is required to bring his/her own
laptop. The Bank of Tanzania will provide network connectivity.
G. COURSE FACILITATORS
This course will be facilitated by Bank of Tanzania Academy in collaboration with
Directorate of Financial Sector Supervision. There will be Guest Presenters from
Creditinfo Tanzania Limited and Dun & Bradstreet Credit Bureau Tanzania Limited.

H. VENUE
Bank of Tanzania Head Office Dodoma.

I. FEES
The fee for each participant is TZS 1.0 million for residents or USD 1,000 for nonresidents covering tuition, course materials, lunch, and mid-session refreshments.
