TRAINING ON PUBLIC DEBT MANAGEMENT FROM 9TH TO 13TH SEPTEMBER 2024 AT BANK OF TANZANIA ARUSHA

A. INTRODUCTION
Borrowing has traditionally been an important source of financing for most countries, particularly in implementing strategic projects that require significant resources. However, the sources and terms of financing have evolved over time in line with developments in both domestic and external sources. The globe has experienced drying sources of financing from traditional creditors and emergence of new creditors with new terms and conditions. Borrowing from domestic sources has also evolved in many developing countries. All these developments have aggravated the cost and risks of public debts. Consequently, some countries are already experiencing challenges in servicing their public debts. This has not only impacted accessing new loans by governments but also deteriorated asset quality of lending institutions.
Mitigation of effects associated with growing public debt requires effective public debt management with a view to maintaining macroeconomic stability, ensuring fiscal sustainability, and promoting economic growth. The objective is to mitigate risks and the cost of borrowing.
In view of the foregoing, the Bank of Tanzania Academy will hold a Training on Public Debt Management of banks and financial institutions from 9th to 13th September 2024, at the Bank of Tanzania Arusha branch.
