TRAINING ON REGULATORY REQUIREMENTS FOR MICROFINANCE SERVICE PROVIDERS BATCH-I & II

The course will be conducted in two batches as follows:

  • Batch I from 19th to 21st June 2023 at the Bank of Tanzania Sub Head Office Dar es Salaam
  • Batch II from 22nd to 24th June 2023 at the Bank of Tanzania Sub Head Office Dar es Salaam

 

A. INTRODUCTION

The Bank of Tanzania Act, 2006 and the Banking and Financial Institutions Act, 2006
mandate the Bank of Tanzania to license, regulate and supervise banks and financial
institutions in Tanzania. As a regulator, the Bank of Tanzania is entrusted with the
responsibility of ensuring a stable, sound, and safe banking sector and financial system at
large.
Hitherto, the Microfinance subsector play an important role in the country by providing
access to funds for low-income earners, encouraging entrepreneurship and self-sufficiency,
empowering women in society, and providing employment.
The objective of microfinance institutions is to provide financial services to help encourage
entrepreneurs in impoverished nations to act on their ideas and obtain the financial tools
available to do so and to eventually become self-sustainable. Additionally, some
microfinance institutions provide financial and business education in order to best position
their clients for starting up a small business or to act efficiently as an entrepreneur.
The Bank of Tanzania Academy has organized a three (3) days course with the objective of
imparting necessary knowledge on regulatory requirements for operating microfinance
activities.

B. OBJECTIVE OF THE COURSE

The objective of this course is to impart necessary skills and knowledge to participants from
Microfinance in the areas of regulatory compliance, operations and guidelines for conducting
Microfinance Business.

C. CONTENTS OF THE COURSE
 Overview of Legal and Regulatory Framework
 Application and qualifications for undertaking Non-Deposit Taking MFIs
 Lending Policies for Non-Deposit Taking MFIs
 Consumer Protection requirements for MFIs
 Filling and submission of regulatory returns for Non-Deposit Taking MFIs
 Risk management in Microfinance
 The role of Microfinance in promoting Financial Inclusion.

D. TARGET GROUP
This course is designed specifically for officers who are involved in providing Microfinance
Services under TIER 2 as defined by the Microfinance Act 2018.

E. SCHEDULED DATES AND DURATION
The course will be conducted in two batches as follows:
 Batch I from 19th to 21st June 2023 at the Bank of Tanzania Sub Head Office Dar es
Salaam
 Batch II from 22nd to 24th June 2023 at the Bank of Tanzania Sub Head Office Dar es
Salaam

F. COURSE FACILITATORS
This course will be facilitated by the Bank of Tanzania Academy in collaboration with
Directorate of Financial Sector Supervision.

H. FEES
The course fee is TZS 250,000/- per participant. The cost covers tuition, course materials,
lunch, and mid-session refreshments. Participants will be responsible for their travel costs
